AM CHANGING

AM CHANGING ....
And this is the second time i ve realized this in my life, the first time was in class 8th when i realized that i no more like toffees n lollipops...
But this time too many things r changing n am noticing dem every second day...
When i got my first pay at Futures First (My employer), I didn't even celebrated it ! It was just another day for me...
I no more like to drive my bike above 80-90 km/hr....trust me, wen i reach 80...it feels that the speed is enough...wen i was in college, it felt at 80 that "Yes, the game begins now"....n i realized AM CHANGING...
Just today, I was roaming around in a mall...I was alone n had a choice of Mc'D, Dominoz n Nirula's thr to have lunch....Trust me, am a die hard Aloo Tikki burger n Cheese Burst pizza fan...but still i went to nirula's n ordered a "Paneer Lababdar Thali"...n after having it, I realized that its my dad who always eats Thali wen we go out to have food...I always used to njoi pizzas n burgers ! But AM CHANGING...
N guess what, it used to be so so difficult for my mom to wake me up everyday for college...but now, in jaipur, (am living with 3 oder colleagues) i wake up n make breakfast n then wake up all my colleagues....i never imagined i could be so responsible ! AM CHANGING...

PLACEMENTS

NOT ALL STORIES HAVE A HAPPY ENDING . . .

PROTAGONIST : ARJUN TUTEJA
NAME OF THE GAME : PLACEMENTS

D A T E : 1 2 - 08 - 2008

T I M E : 0 2 : 3 0 P . M .

A lady from HR department of Tata Motors switches on her computer and presses "Fn+F7" to connect the laptop to the projector. Every student is hooked up to his seat to listen the first PPT (pre-placement talk) of this placement season. She clicks on a file named "GET ppt" (GET : Graduate Engineer Trainee) and then there is an electricity power failure. Students start clapping to scoff at the college infrastructure. Lolz. We were told to wait. We waited patiently for them to start a electricity generator so that we could continue with the PPT only to hear that we were told to wait till the power is back from the default resources. In short, electricity is gone and college has no back up. The HR lady uses her mobile screen's light to read a piece of paper in the dark auditorium. Written on the paper was the compensation plan for the students. She added to that that for the selection procedure there would be 3 elimination rounds today as follows ... A written test-A Group Discussion-An interview. And all those who clear all the 3 rounds will get a job offer to join "TATA MOTORS".

D A T E : 1 2 - 08 - 2008

T I M E : 0 3 : 3 0 P . M .

The HR person, standing in the middle of the examination hall where all students are seated for their written test for TATA motors, announced "You have 1 hour to answer to the test, you may start now".

D A T E : 1 2 - 08 - 2008

T I M E : 0 5 : 3 0 P . M .

The Class Representative, or you may say our "CR" (One of the batch mate who the class has chosen to handle all the placement stuff) came out of the placement office (Where the HR team was seated) with a list in his hand "The short listed students who have cleared the written test, and are hence selected for the Group Discussion round, are ..... , ...... , ...... , ...... , ....... , ...... ,...... ,...... ,...... ,...... ,...... ,...... ,...... ,...... ,...... ,...... ,Arjun Tuteja ,...... ,...... ,......". As the names are announced one by one, every person standing there has just one hope "The next name should be mine" and he just hopes that the list doesn't finishes before his name is announced !

D A T E : 1 2 - 08 - 2008

T I M E : 0 6 : 3 0 P . M .

Arjun along with 7 other selected students is sitting inside the hall where the Group Discussion is going to take place. The HR lady announced "The topic of the GD is Should India bid for Olympics 2016"

D A T E : 1 2 - 08 - 2008

T I M E : 0 9 : 3 0 P . M .

Our class representative came out of the placement office with a list in his hand which had the list of students who had cleared the GD. "The short listed students for the Interview are ...... , ...... , ...... , ...... , ....... , ...... , ...... , ...... ". Yes, Arjun's name was not in the list, he was eliminated. He was shocked for he had expected his name is the list, as his performance in the GD round went "good" according to him. The selected students were requested to have their dinner and come back at 10:30 for their interviews. But why was he hearing these announcements, he was supposed to go back home.

The Date, The Timings, The Company's name, The round in which he was eliminated kept on changing. But the fact that was he was eliminated remained unaltered for the next 6 companies. All companies were core mechanical engineering companies. Though he had no interest in doing a mechanical engineer's job, but he wanted to get selected as he wanted a job security! What Arjun really wanted was a job profile of a market analyst, finance analyst...a kind of analytical job...something related to business world.

But still every rejection was like accepting a bullet on a bullet proof jacket, it didn't killed him but the impact was big enough to give a shock to him.

Slowly and slowly all his friends got placed in one company or the other. He congratulated them all, attended their placement parties and enjoyed with them!

D A T E : 30 - 08 - 2008

T I M E : 1 1 : 0 0 P . M .

Arjun sitting on his chair and contemplating "The next company is Futures First, I need to get in it." Though he thought the same thing for every company but this time he was more serious. Why so?

Arjun always used to think, after 10-20 years from now when I would have loads of money. I would take a break from my job and do stock trading with my money. It was fun for him, a great experience which he always wanted to have, even if that means losing all the money he invested. He liked the game!

And FF (Futures First) offered a trading profile...

So, he started the preparation for recruitment tests and interviews of FF:

He searched the FF community on orkut and had a chat with many of its employees regarding recruitment process. It was of great help.

He learned about technical details of trading from wikipedia.com and youtube.com ... lolz ...he could never think even youtube can be used in collecting information... surely its the Internet age going!

He started practicing oral calculations whenever he got free time. He used to give the calculator to his friend Bharat and told him to ask him multiplication of any two numbers orally and cross check his answer on the calculator. Bharat used to ask him questions like ""whats 37*58" and Arjun used to answer that in around 30 seconds. Arjun's answers were wrong many a times, but it was fun calculating things orally.

D A T E : 02 - 09 - 2008

T I M E : 0 8 : 0 0 P . M .

Arjun going to temple. He doesn't even remember the last time when he visited any temple. It was surely years ago. But he didn't knew why, but he felt like going today and asked for just one thing "God, give me what I deserve, I don't ask for more" .

D A T E : 03 - 09 - 2008

T I M E : 0 4 : 0 0 A . M .

Arjun lying on bed but not able to sleep.

D A T E : 03 - 09 - 2008

T I M E : 1 1 : 0 0 A . M .

Everybody seated in the auditorium and the recruitment people from FF started their presentation, a general introduction to the company and the job profile offered. They told that the recruitment process consists of 4 elimination rounds, first 2 are written tests and then 2 interviews.

D A T E : 03 - 09 - 2008

T I M E : 1 2 : 0 0 A . M .

First written test starts. The test had 40 questions to be done in 6 minutes! All questions were of basic maths. Arjun attempted around 30 of them, was quite sure he will get through this round.

D A T E : 03 - 09 - 2008

T I M E : 0 1 : 0 0 P . M .

Result for 1st round is out, Arjun was selected. He thinks "It feels good to see your name in the list."

D A T E : 03 - 09 - 2008

T I M E : 0 5 : 0 0 P . M .

Result for 2nd round is about to be declared. Arjun is tense, as this time he was not able to perform to his best, and he fears getting eliminated.
The CR comes out of the Placement office with a sheet in his hand, he pasted the sheet on the notice board, Arjun's name was not in the list. The clock stopped for him, his heart skipped a beat, he didn't knew what to do . Another person comes out of the office, he has another sheet in his hand which also had the continued list of selected candidates. Arjun's name was in that list. His heart started beating again and yes, he was happy .

D A T E : 03 - 09 - 2008

T I M E : 1 0 : 0 0 P . M .

First interview started. It did not went up to the mark. This time Arjun was really scared when he came out of the room after giving the interview. He knew he screwed it big time. And life doesn't give another chance. The result came out. He was being shown the door...the door to the room which had the 2nd round of interview going inside it. Yes, he had cleared the 3rd round. The next interview went good according to him. In fact, it was quite close to perfect. But then in interviews you never know what's going in the mind of the person taking your interview. For its not a written test where you are going to get some discreet marks for every question you answer.

D A T E : 03 - 09 - 2008

T I M E : 1 1 : 0 0 P . M .

Arjun coming out of the Placement office, he was told that the final result i.e. the result of the 2nd interview would be declared once all the students are interviewed. He guessed that this would take another 2-3 hours for sure. He decided to go home and call up his CR later to check the final result. As he sat on his bike and moved it, he found the bike was very heavy. He checked the tyres. Oh damn, the front tyre was punctured. Damn...this was the 1st time ever his bike got punctured..Now is this supposed to be a bad omen or what! He called up his friend Bharat to pick him up and drop him home. They had ice cream on the way back home. Both were really excited about the result because they knew it was his dream to get in this company. Arjun reached home at 12 AM.

D A T E : 03 - 09 - 2008

T I M E : 0 1 : 0 0 A . M .

Arjun's feeling sleepy, last night also he couldn't have a sound sleep. He was so tired. He switched on his laptop and started doing dingy stuff like watching david blane's magic shows on youtube.com , listening to songs on the movie "singh is king"...He did anything which could help him cross the 2-3 hours he had in front of him because he wanted to hear the result before sleeping. He never thought he would be that much excited.

D A T E : 03 - 09 - 2008

T I M E : 0 3 : 0 0 A . M .

This was the 3rd time Arjun called up his CR to know that the result is out or not. He was kinda fed up and said "Arjun, don't you worry bro, i will tell you the result once it is announced, now please stop calling me after every 5 minutes as my cell's battery is already too low". Arjun decided not to contact him now and let him contact him when the result is out. Arjun wanted his CR too to get selected because he knew that he too had wanted to join this company as badly as he did.

D A T E : 04 - 09 - 2008

T I M E : 0 3 : 1 2 A . M .

Arjun lying on the bed, head aching, eyes closed...Mind empty...totally empty...he doesn't knows what to think and what not to think...he heard a sound "beep beep"...his cell phone had just received a new message...he knows that that message has in it what he has been waiting for ...the results of the interview...he picks up the mobile ... clicks "show message" ... the message has just 6 words in it...before telling you people those 6 words I would like to remind you all "NOT ALL STORIES HAVE A HAPPY ENDING . . ." so here are the 6 words

Be ready people...

The words were :
"U selected and me also selected". The clock stopped for him that very moment...

This part of his life...This little part is what he calls "happYness". He called up Karun, his CR, to wish him congrats...Arjun cried...the man who couldn't even recall the last time he had cried, cried then...He woke up his parents to give them the news...They were of course, happy.

D A T E : 04 - 09 - 2008

T I M E : 0 4 : 0 0 A . M .

Lying on bed, with just one thing in mind..."Dreams really come true man, it's all about wanting the thing so badly that even god wouldn't like to take it from you"

YES, NOT ALL STORIES HAVE A HAPPY ENDING . . . BUT MINE DID!

The scent...

A left turn, crossed the gate and I entered the area…Bet you the height of the gate was lower than the stance of my bike…n I really don’t like this area…for I have no definite reason to do so… I dun love the buildings too…for they are not sky crapers or civil engineering marvels…n I dun love the roads too…for there is a speed breaker after every 100 meter and loose mud lying on every turn….
And there I came across the red Honda city…it made me smile…no one was sitting in it…but I know its owner is the 25 looking 45 yr old teacher Mrs geeta…or Miss would be better I suppose…!
And then I saw a couple of odd fachas sitting near verka chatting ki “kya enginnering aisi hoti hai yaar”…n trust me…this topic will go on till they leave PEC…
Yes am talking about my college…namely Punjab Engineering College…
Kucch na hote hue bhi ek khushboo hai iss clg mein, which u can smell riding slowly on your bike around the college…staring from gate, then the right turn from audi parking…u will come across a few seniors sitting inside their cars and few standing beside them discussing something…then crossing the production department u take a left turn to see the only green grasslands of PEC…taking a left turn, crossing the computer department u take a right turn from the verka…I always found ME ppl sitting here drinking verka milk, or a memory cud be the recruitment tables of various clubs being set up around august…going down d road u will always find some hostlers strolling from college to market…then a left turn, though girls hostel is at right but u really dun give a damn…then another left…and you cross CCA…ya here the girls are cool, in short, yes we give a damn…and a speedbreaker and the right turn brings the famous metta parking…and then the T in front of library stairs where u will always find the some couples discussing something, though they say we are friends but I always found something fishy. Apply the brake ppl. U stop n u think ki I hate this college somewhat but I really wont get tired doing this gehri again and again and again…for that is what I call the smell of my campus…. N yes I love it.

Me after 10 years from now...

I wish once again to live “my” life…

I wish once again to wake up nly when I get tired sleeping instead of the alarm ringing…

I wish once again to sit with my friends and eat that exotic sea food sitting on a pier ,hearing the rain falling…

I wish once again to spend an evening sitting on the beach checking out every foreigner passing by…

I wish once again to get a dingy scooter on rent and roam about on it. Going around, just where the road is taking me, tracing the curves on the mountains…whole night…and never getting tired driving...

I wish once again to sit in Dominoz, the one with a good ambience, and eat “pan 4 all”…

I wish once again to visit that TITO’s road and give a work out to my eye muscles, which are going to stretch when my eyes will pop out at every girl passing by…

I wish once again to spend a night sitting at the beach, hearing the sound made by every passing wave….

I wish once again to swim in the salty sea water…

I wish once again to lose in the casino games…at vagator beach...

I wish once again to spend a few days without caring about the bulls and the bears…

I wish once again to holiday with my friends…

I wish once again to visit Goa

I wish once again to live like a teenager…

I wish once again to live “my” life…

My lines

You know what Arjun,

20 yrs from now it wont matter how many dates u went on…
how many crushes you have…

how many long hours chatting u did…

how many msgs did you sent..
what mattered will be which mba degree you have…

and what is ur package…
THAT will decide your life partner

THAT will decide the upbringing of your child
THAT will decide the ages which will remember you….

THAT will decide what u r…
it wont matter,

it really wont matter whom u loved when u were in college….
for 5 yrs from now…

nobody knows in which corner of world u will be….
and in which corner of world she will be…

and u r too young to fall in love…u cant.
